Rabbi Jonathan Roos completed his rabbinical studies at Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati in May 2002. Rabbi Roos earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in American History from the University of Maryland. Rabbi Roos joined Monmouth Reform Temple in July 2006 after serving the previous four years as associate rabbi of Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany, New York. Rabbi Roos completed a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati, where he also served as Chaplain for the Intensive Care Unit. Rabbi Roos was part of the second class of STAR PEER and remains active in their alumni program.
Rabbi Roos loves teaching Judaism and Jewish texts to people of all ages and levels. Rabbi Roos will be teaching a course on King David on Tuesday mornings this coming fall. He has taught adult courses on Responsa Literature, the Reform Movement, Antisemitism, the weekly Torah portion, and many other topics. In addition to working with our adults, Rabbi Roos will teach the temple's confirmation seminar for tenth graders and work closely with our youth groups and religious school. Rabbi Roos has spent two weeks at URJ's Crane Lake overnight camp as a faculty member and encourages all our students to consider Jewish overnight camps. He has taught in the Melton Adult Mini-School in several locations and led several workshops for public school teachers.
Rabbi Roos is a member of the Rabbinic Cabinet of United Jewish Federation, past officer of the Capital District Board of Rabbis, and a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis. He has been affiliated with Empire State Pride Agenda's Pride in the Pulpit, Interfaith Impact of New York State, ARZA, and other social justice organizations. Rabbi Roos is a native of Randolph, Massachusetts and now lives in Red Bank with his family.
